The Story behind this car.
Last Edit 3/24/01 (With more on the way)
Well.....I've been asked alot of questions about the history of this car, so I will try to put it into words. This page will most likely be edited, changed, and added to as I remember stuff. So come back every now an then.
Basically, my 1966 Newport has been family owned since 11/65 (NEW). I'm the fourth family member to own the car and I fell in love with it the first time saw it in my grandfather's garage. I believe I was nine at the time.
I have named her Chrys short for Christina. Below is a complete list of item that she was born with.

Current Plans:
Well..........I really started some 15yrs ago by collecting parts. I believe I started on this restoration in March of 2000 or the winter before. The car is now totally striped and I will be starting repairs on the main body this summer(2001). I hope to have the body done and in epoxy primer by winter of this year(2001). I hope to have her totally completed by 2003. At that time, she will have most, if not all, the allowed accessories for the Newport of that year. She will still have the same black vinyl interior and most of it will still be original. Her exterior will again be painted with Rube Red Metallic, however I believe that I will add the two-tone option for that year and in this case Black will be the secondary color in the lower sweep lines. The top can is also be part of the two-tone option, but I must make sure of wether it is painted or in vinyl (back or white vinyl only). If I can, she will have a black vinyl top.
Cost.....
Well this is an open question. I currently have no idea how much I have
spent. I've been wanting to put together a spreadsheet of expense, but
I haven't had the time. I do know that these cars aren't worth much. One
can buy a really nice looking and running 66 Newport for under $8K. The
cost of restoration will be much more then this. My tools alone are valued
at $5000. or more. Parts can be expensive and only you can tell if the
price is right for you. If I were to make a guess as to how much I have
invested into this project, not including tools, I would say at least $4000.
I will most likely have well over $10k invested into this car that will
only be valued at $7 to $9k. Will thats why it is called a labor of love.
